4. House and directions

Rooms, the road, and which way to turn.

Casă is the house and also home. Acasă is at home. The rooms you need first: bucătărie kitchen, baie bathroom, cameră room, pat bed. Ușă is the door. Fereastră is the window; in Transylvania and Banat everyday speech often says geam for that opening, which the standard keeps for the pane.

Outside: curte the yard, poartă the gate, fântână the well, drum the road. In town, stradă is the street and piață is the market or the square.

Directions are short. La dreapta to the right, la stânga to the left, drept înainte straight on, aproape near, departe far. Asking: unde este…? or the spoken unde e…? Where is the bathroom: unde e toaleta?
